Penta for Business
In Human Design, a small team of three to five people is a Penta. The calculator combines the members’ charts and shows who in the team is responsible for direction, product, money, records and the rhythm of work, and which functions the business is missing.
You need three to five people; empty members are not counted. If you don’t know a time, clear the field: that chart will be calculated for noon. Names are used only as labels.
Twelve team functions
The Penta reads 12 gates and 6 channels between the G Center, the Throat and the Sacral Center. In business, they are usually named as follows:
| Channel | What it gives the business |
|---|---|
| 1-8 | the product and how it is presented |
| 7-31 | leadership and influence |
| 13-33 | experience, records, reporting |
| 15-5 | work rhythm and culture |
| 2-14 | resources and where they go |
| 46-29 | commitment and follow-through |
The upper three channels are roles that can be assigned to people. The lower three are the team’s energy and resources. Gates that nobody has are called gaps: in the system, the team’s attention and tension flow there.
How it is calculated
A full chart is built for each member. For each of the 12 gates, the calculator marks who has it; a channel is complete if both of its gates are present somewhere in the team, even in different people.
In the BG5 business branch, these functions have their own names and a closed method of their own; here we use simple names in our own words, not BG5. For two people there is business compatibility, and for six or more, the team calculation. The family version of the same calculation is the Family Penta.
An Honest Look at the Method
Human Design is a modern system that Ra Uru Hu described in 1987. Its rules are precisely defined and therefore calculable, but none of them has been tested as a way to describe a person or predict how relationships will turn out. We calculate by the system’s rules and write the interpretations as a description of what the system holds, not as knowledge about you. More on the system’s origins is on the Human Design page.
Frequently asked questions
What should you do about a gap in the team?
In the system, a gap is a function that nobody takes care of naturally. It can be explicitly assigned to someone, covered by finding a person with those gates, or outsourced.
How is a Penta different from business compatibility for two?
For two people, the system looks at the connections between their charts; for three to five, at the group’s shared field and its 12 functions. That is why there are different calculators for a couple and for a team.
What if there are six of us?
According to the teaching, a group of more than five is a different structure. Calculate it with the team calculator: it will show both the functions and how to split people into Pentas.
