2/4 Profile: Hermit/Opportunist

The 2/4 profile is a conscious Hermit and an unconscious Opportunist: a person who needs solitude yet keeps getting called out by the people they know. About 14% of people have it.

Two lines: Hermit and Opportunist

The line of the Personality Sun is the second, the Hermit. Consciously, the person needs time alone to do their own thing at their own pace. According to the system, the second line has natural gifts that it doesn't regard as anything special and has no urge to show off.

The line of the Design Sun is the fourth, the Opportunist. Unconsciously, they are woven into a network of acquaintances, and that is exactly where offers and invitations come from. The result is a rhythm: withdraw, do what comes naturally, and then respond when someone from their circle calls on them to use that skill. They may see themselves as reserved, while others see a person with a wide circle of connections.

In life, relationships and work

  • In life. The best turns in a 2/4's life are believed to happen when they are called, not when they go looking on their own. It is important for them to have a place where no one disturbs them.
  • In relationships. According to the system, a partner is more often found among friends and acquaintances than through chance encounters. They need both a reliable social circle and the right to close the door and be alone without explaining why.
  • At work. The profile is described as a natural talent who gets discovered through recommendations. They don't have to promote themselves actively: work comes through people who have seen them in action. Places with neither solitude nor familiar faces are harder for them.

Right Angle Cross

2/4 is one of the seven Right Angle profiles, from 1/3 to 4/6; together they account for about 64% of people. According to the system, a Right Angle Cross is a path of personal destiny: meaning unfolds through the person's own story, and encounters with others matter but do not set the direction. In a 2/4 the personal second line is combined with the transpersonal fourth: the talent remains their own, and connections merely bring it out to people. An example of such a cross in a chart is the “Right Angle Cross of Planning”: its theme comes from the gates of the Personality and Design Sun and Earth, while the profile only sets the angle. Harmonic lines

The system considers the line pairs 1–4, 2–5 and 3–6 harmonic. For a 2/4 these are the fifth line (the pair to the second) and the first (the pair to the fourth). The 5/1 profile has both at once, in the same order; we call it the mirror profile. Harmonic and shared lines are believed to ease mutual understanding, but they make a couple neither good nor bad. The system examines the relationship as a whole in Human Design compatibility.

How to read this

This is a description of the 2/4 profile according to the rules of the system, not an established fact: there is no research linking the line of the Sun to character or destiny. According to the system, the profile is read after Type, Strategy and Authority. You can calculate your own chart with the Human Design calculator, and the other profiles are described in the profiles overview.

It is a conscious second line, the Hermit, and an unconscious fourth, the Opportunist. According to the system, such a person values solitude, while friends and people close to them call them out to put their abilities to use.

What kind of work suits the 2/4 profile?

The system doesn't name professions. It describes conditions: time to follow their own rhythm, and opportunities that come through recommendations from acquaintances rather than through an active search.

The mirror profile is 5/1: the fifth line is harmonic with the second, the first with the fourth. Line harmony is a concept of the system; Human Design compatibility shows how it is taken into account in a couple.
