Sagittarius Ascendant
The Sagittarius Ascendant is the rising sign that describes your appearance, your manner and the first impression you make. Element: fire; modality: mutable; chart ruler: Jupiter.
Appearance and manner
A Sagittarius Ascendant gives a tall stature or long legs, an open face, a broad smile and sweeping movements. These people look energetic and friendly and like loose, sporty clothes.
You approach anything new believing it will be interesting: new countries, people and ideas are your element. You need to see meaning and prospects. Routine and petty restrictions weigh you down.
How others see you
People see you as an optimist, a traveller and a teacher: cheerful, direct and fond of talking about the meaning of life. You are interesting company and fire people up with ideas. Sometimes you are seen as tactless, boastful or promising more than you deliver.
Strengths and traps
Your strength is optimism, generosity, broad horizons and the ability to inspire. You make an excellent teacher, traveller, lawyer, publisher or advocate of your ideas. The trap is making rash promises, impatience with routine and certainty that you are right.
Chart ruler
The ruler of the Ascendant is Jupiter. Its sign and house show where you are lucky, where you grow and what you believe in. Jupiter in Sagittarius, Pisces or Cancer amplifies the Ascendant's luck and generosity; in Capricorn or Gemini it makes them more cautious and rational.
The house where the ruler sits is the area of life through which the Ascendant expresses itself: in the 2nd house it is money, in the 7th partnership, in the 10th career. The Ascendant calculator will show where yours is.
Descendant in Gemini
Descendant in Gemini: you are drawn to light-hearted, witty, curious people you can talk to endlessly. Relationships teach you to listen and notice details.
How to make the most of your Ascendant
A Sagittarius Ascendant thrives on the road and on learning: travel, languages, philosophy, teaching. To keep optimism from turning into empty promises, it helps to give your word only after estimating the time and effort involved.
The Ascendant is not the whole person. It blends with your Sun sign and your Moon sign: a Sagittarius Ascendant with the Sun in a water sign, for example, will be softer, and with the Sun in a fire sign, brighter. The description above is the base on which the other planets are layered.
Find your Ascendant
The Ascendant depends on your exact time and place of birth: on average it changes sign every two hours. You can check whether yours really is in Sagittarius with the Ascendant calculator.
