2/5 Profile: Hermit/Heretic
The 2/5 profile is a conscious Hermit and an unconscious Heretic: the person wants peace, while others expect solutions from them. One of the six rare profiles, found in about 2% of people.
Two lines: Hermit and Heretic
The conscious line of the Personality Sun is the Hermit. The person knows they need to withdraw into themselves and do what comes naturally. They often underestimate their talents and are in no hurry to present them to the world.
The unconscious line of the Design Sun is the Heretic. According to the system, the fifth line attracts projections: people see in this person someone who can handle their problem, even if they never asked for it. The second and fifth lines are harmonic, and in a 2/5 they form a clear pattern: what the Hermit does for themselves, others take as a ready-made solution for everyone. That is why they are called on so often — and why it matters so much to know which call to answer.
In life, relationships and work
- In life. A 2/5 is believed to live between two poles: solitude and other people's expectations. It helps them to protect time for themselves and not to treat every request as an obligation.
- In relationships. According to the system, a partner may see an idealized image in them, and disappointment comes when the image doesn't match the real person. Clear agreements help, as does personal space that both sides respect.
- At work. The profile is described as a specialist who is brought in for a specific task. Reputation matters: according to the system, the fifth line does well when its solution is practical and workable, and suffers when it takes on what it never promised.
Right Angle Cross
2/5 is one of the seven Right Angle profiles, from 1/3 to 4/6; together they account for about 64% of people. According to the system, a Right Angle Cross is a path of personal destiny: meaning unfolds through the person's own story, and encounters with others matter but do not set the direction. A 2/5 has a Right Angle even though the fifth line is tied to other people's expectations: encounters stir up projections, but the path remains their own. An example of such a cross in a chart is the “Right Angle Cross of Consciousness”: its theme comes from the gates of the Personality and Design Sun and Earth, while the profile only sets the angle. Harmonic lines
The system considers the line pairs 1–4, 2–5 and 3–6 harmonic. For a 2/5 these are the fifth line (the pair to the second) and the second (the pair to the fifth). In other words, the profile's lines are harmonic with each other — this is how all six rare profiles are built. The 5/2 profile has the same lines in reverse order; we call it the mirror profile. Harmonic and shared lines are believed to ease mutual understanding, but they make a couple neither good nor bad. The system examines the relationship as a whole in Human Design compatibility.
How to read this
This is a description of the 2/5 profile according to the rules of the system, not an established fact: there is no research linking the line of the Sun to character or destiny. According to the system, the profile is read after Type, Strategy and Authority. You can calculate your own chart with the Human Design calculator, and the other profiles are described in the profiles overview.

Frequently asked questions
What does the 2/5 profile mean in Human Design?
A conscious second line, the Hermit, and an unconscious fifth, the Heretic. According to the system, such a person is drawn to solitude, while others see them as the one who will solve their problem and call on them.
How is 2/5 different from 2/4?
They share the second line, but their unconscious lines differ. For a 2/4 the call comes from acquaintances; for a 2/5 it often comes from strangers who project their expectations onto them. 2/5 occurs in about 2% of people, 2/4 in about 14%.
How can a 2/5 profile handle other people's expectations?
The system advises relying on one's own Strategy and Authority: responding to calls one inwardly agrees with and offering only practical solutions. The chart calculator will show your Type and Authority.
