4/6 Profile: Opportunist/Role Model

The 4/6 profile is a conscious Opportunist and an unconscious Role Model: a life lived through a circle of trusted people and the three stages of the sixth line. About 14% of people have it.

Two lines: Opportunist and Role Model

The line of the Personality Sun is the fourth, the Opportunist. Consciously, the person builds their life through the people they know: friends, colleagues and relatives are their main support and source of opportunities.

The line of the Design Sun is the sixth, the Role Model. Unconsciously, they go through the three stages of the sixth line and hold high expectations of themselves and of others. Both lines lie in the upper, transpersonal trigram, meaning they face toward other people. Together they make a person who first tests the world through their own circle and over time becomes a point of reference for that circle.

In life, relationships and work

  • In life. Important turns for a 4/6 are believed to come through people they know. According to the system, disappointments in youth are normal: this is how the sixth line forms its standards.
  • In relationships. According to the system, their relationships grow out of friendship, and they set high demands on a partner. They need a union with both trust and respect for their ideals.
  • At work. The profile is described as someone valued by the team and relied on by others. Work comes through contacts and recommendations, and with age they often become a mentor or the one who sets the standard.

Right Angle Cross

4/6 is one of the seven Right Angle profiles, from 1/3 to 4/6; together they account for about 64% of people. According to the system, a Right Angle Cross is a path of personal destiny: meaning unfolds through the person's own story, and encounters with others matter but do not set the direction. 4/6 is the last Right Angle profile: both its lines are transpersonal, but according to the system the path remains personal. An example of such a cross in a chart is the “Right Angle Cross of Eden”: its theme comes from the gates of the Personality and Design Sun and Earth, while the profile only sets the angle. The three stages of the sixth line

According to the system, the sixth line lives in three stages. Until about age 30 it behaves like the third: it tries and makes mistakes. From 30 to 50 comes the period “on the roof”: the person steps aside, observes and reflects on what they have lived through. After 50 they “come down off the roof” and live as an example for others. The system links the boundaries of these stages to the Saturn and Chiron returns.

In a 4/6 the sixth line is unconscious, so the three stages are often lived through relationships with their circle: in youth, trials and disappointment in people; in midlife, detachment; later, the role of someone others trust.

Harmonic lines

The system considers the line pairs 1–4, 2–5 and 3–6 harmonic. For a 4/6 these are the first line (the pair to the fourth) and the third (the pair to the sixth). The 1/3 profile has both at once, in the same order; we call it the mirror profile. Harmonic and shared lines are believed to ease mutual understanding, but they make a couple neither good nor bad. The system examines the relationship as a whole in Human Design compatibility.

How to read this

This is a description of the 4/6 profile according to the rules of the system, not an established fact: there is no research linking the line of the Sun to character or destiny. According to the system, the profile is read after Type, Strategy and Authority. You can calculate your own chart with the Human Design calculator, and the other profiles are described in the profiles overview.
