3/6 Profile: Martyr/Role Model
The 3/6 profile is a conscious Martyr and an unconscious Role Model: a lot of trial and error early in life and a mature outlook over time. One of the rare profiles, found in about 2% of people.
Two lines: Martyr and Role Model
The conscious line of the Personality Sun is the Martyr. The person knows they learn through experience, not from a textbook, and that mistakes are part of the process. According to the system, the third line keeps this way of getting to know the world all its life.
The unconscious line of the Design Sun is the Role Model. The sixth line goes through three stages, and the first of them itself resembles the third line. That is why in youth a 3/6 has twice as many trials: conscious and unconscious. The third and sixth lines are harmonic, and the third line's experience becomes material for the sixth: over time the string of trials adds up to a calm, objective outlook.
In life, relationships and work
- In life. A 3/6 is believed to go through many changes and disappointments in youth. The system advises against drawing harsh conclusions about oneself in those years: experience is still accumulating.
- In relationships. According to the system, such a person may take a long time to find the right partner. The third line tests a union for strength, the sixth looks for authenticity and a high standard in it.
- At work. The profile is described as someone with a varied résumé who over time becomes the person others come to for advice. According to the system, diverse experience is not chaos but preparation for the role of mentor.
Right Angle Cross
3/6 is one of the seven Right Angle profiles, from 1/3 to 4/6; together they account for about 64% of people. According to the system, a Right Angle Cross is a path of personal destiny: meaning unfolds through the person's own story, and encounters with others matter but do not set the direction. In a 3/6, the example they set for others grows out of their own experience. An example of such a cross in a chart is the “Right Angle Cross of Rulership”: its theme comes from the gates of the Personality and Design Sun and Earth, while the profile only sets the angle. The three stages of the sixth line
According to the system, the sixth line lives in three stages. Until about age 30 it behaves like the third: it tries and makes mistakes. From 30 to 50 comes the period “on the roof”: the person steps aside, observes and reflects on what they have lived through. After 50 they “come down off the roof” and live as an example for others. The system links the boundaries of these stages to the Saturn and Chiron returns.
In a 3/6 the sixth line is unconscious: the stages are lived through circumstances more than through conscious choice, and the conscious third line keeps on experimenting even “on the roof.”
Harmonic lines
The system considers the line pairs 1–4, 2–5 and 3–6 harmonic. For a 3/6 these are the sixth line (the pair to the third) and the third (the pair to the sixth). In other words, the profile's lines are harmonic with each other — this is how all six rare profiles are built. The 6/3 profile has the same lines in reverse order; we call it the mirror profile. Harmonic and shared lines are believed to ease mutual understanding, but they make a couple neither good nor bad. The system examines the relationship as a whole in Human Design compatibility.
How to read this
This is a description of the 3/6 profile according to the rules of the system, not an established fact: there is no research linking the line of the Sun to character or destiny. According to the system, the profile is read after Type, Strategy and Authority. You can calculate your own chart with the Human Design calculator, and the other profiles are described in the profiles overview.

Frequently asked questions
What does the 3/6 profile mean in Human Design?
It is a conscious third line, the Martyr, and an unconscious sixth, the Role Model. According to the system, such a person tries a great deal in youth and over the years turns that experience into a mature, objective outlook.
What happens to a 3/6 after 30?
According to the system, the second stage of the sixth line begins — the period “on the roof”: the person throws themselves into new things less, and observes and reflects on what they have lived through more. After 50, it is believed, they live by what they have come to understand.
Is the 3/6 profile rare?
Yes, it occurs in about 2% of people. As with all the rare profiles, its lines are harmonic with each other: the third and the sixth.
