Leo
Leo is the zodiac sign for people born between July 23 and August 22. Element: fire; modality: fixed; ruling planet: the Sun. The cusp dates shift by a day from year to year, so if you were born near a cusp, check your sign with the calculator.
Personality
Leo is the sign of generosity and self-expression. Leos take up space and do it naturally: they need a stage, recognition and the chance to be magnanimous.
Strengths: warmth, loyalty to their own, the ability to inspire and take responsibility. Leos are neither petty nor envious.
Weaknesses: pride and sensitivity to criticism. Leos easily take an objection as a personal attack, and they handle being ignored worse than open conflict.
The Gemini man and woman
The Leo man is generous and hard to miss, and loves to court in grand style; he expects his choice to be appreciated.
The Leo woman is vivid and independent; she won't settle for being in the background and doesn't forgive being slighted.
Career and money
Anything public or leadership-oriented suits them: the stage, management, sales, teaching, the creative industries, working with children.
Leos spend money willingly and for show, often on others. What keeps them from saving isn't other people's greed but their own reluctance to deny themselves and their loved ones.
Compatibility
Traditionally, the easiest matches are signs of the same element and of compatible elements; for Leo these are Aries, Gemini, Libra and Sagittarius.
The most challenging are signs in square and in adjacent positions: Taurus, Cancer, Virgo and Scorpio. The opposite sign is Aquarius: strong attraction and an equally strong struggle.
These are general rules of aspects, not a verdict. Each pair is covered separately in zodiac compatibility.
The sign in the birth chart
Your Sun sign is just the position of the Sun at the moment of birth. A full birth chart also includes the sign of the Moon (emotions), the Ascendant (first impression) and the positions of the other planets.
That's why a person may "not seem like an Aries": they have an Aries Sun, a Cancer Moon and a Libra Ascendant, and what comes across is nothing like a Martian manner. Horoscopes in the media work only with the Sun sign, hence the feeling that they aren't about you.
