Zodiac sign compatibility is calculated from the angle between the signs on the zodiac wheel: the more “harmonious” the angle is by astrological tradition, the higher the score. The calculator above shows the angle and the score and takes you to the page for that specific pair.
How it's calculated
The signs run around the wheel at 30-degree intervals. The distance between two signs determines the aspect, and it is the aspect, not the “personalities,” that sets the traditional score.

This scale is our own, and we don't hide it: it is derived from the classical assessment of aspects, in which the trine and sextile are considered harmonious, the square tense and the opposition ambivalent.
Worked Example
Leo and Sagittarius. Leo is the fifth sign and Sagittarius the ninth, so they are 4 signs, or 120 degrees, apart: a trine, and both are fire signs. Score: 94%.
Leo and Scorpio. The fifth and eighth signs, 3 apart, which makes a square: both signs are fixed, and the elements are fire and water. Score: 40%, the lowest on this scale.
Note that Leo is the same in both cases. What changes is not the sign's character but its relationship to the second sign.
What the result means
A high score means a similar way of reacting, not a guarantee of happiness. Trine couples understand each other without words and, for the same reason, don't notice their shared weak spots.
A low score means a difference in pace and in how problems get solved. The square is the most tense aspect and at the same time the most growth-inducing: astrological tradition holds that it is exactly what forces both partners to change.
The opposition stands apart: 72% is about a strong attraction of opposites, which leads to a lasting union and to a breakup equally often.
A conjunction — two identical signs — gives 78%: similar strengths and weaknesses, easy to understand each other, but hard to make up for what both lack. Adjacent signs (45%) and the quincunx — signs five apart (52%) — are the most awkward combinations after the square: the signs share neither an element nor a modality, and the couple has to keep adjusting to each other.

Does the exact birth date count, beyond the sign?
Not in this calculation: only the sign. For a calculation based on the full date there is birth date compatibility, and a real astrological check requires synastry with both people's birth times and places.
I was born on the cusp between two signs. Which one should I use?
Check the zodiac signs by date: the boundaries shift by a day from year to year.
Are there incompatible signs?
Not on this scale: the minimum is 40%. Astrological tradition doesn't claim that a square makes a relationship impossible either; it claims the relationship will be difficult.
Does it work?
Tests do not confirm it: large studies that compared the zodiac signs of couples against real marriage and divorce statistics found no link at all.
