Black Moon Lilith
The Black Moon, or Lilith, is the apogee of the Moon's orbit; in astrology it stands for the shadow side of the personality: forbidden desires, temptations and what a person refuses to accept in themselves. What Is the Black Moon
The Black Moon, or Lilith, is not a celestial body but a calculated point: the apogee of the Moon's orbit, where the Moon is farthest from the Earth. Astrology reads it as the shadow side of the personality — what a person represses, is ashamed of or is tempted by: forbidden desires, pride, anger, addictions.
The name comes from Lilith of Jewish legend — Adam's first wife, who refused to submit to him. That is why the Black Moon is also linked to the themes of freedom, refusing to submit, and a sexuality that society disapproves of.
Lilith's sign shows the nature of the shadow; its house shows the area of life where it shows up most often. The goal is not to “defeat” Lilith but to see it: a shadow you are aware of gives strength and depth.
Mean and True Lilith
The mean Lilith is the apogee of the Moon's averaged orbit. It moves evenly, goes around the zodiac in 8.85 years and passes through a sign in about nine months. Most astrologers and almost all Russian schools use it.
The true, or osculating, Lilith is the apogee of the elliptical orbit the Moon would follow if the Sun's perturbations vanished at that moment. Because of these perturbations, the point swings up to 30° either side of the mean one and sometimes moves backward. That is why the true Lilith can be in the neighboring sign.

How it is calculated
The mean Lilith is the longitude of the Moon's mean perigee according to Meeus plus 180°, projected from the plane of the lunar orbit onto the ecliptic and corrected for nutation — the same way as in the Swiss Ephemeris. Across hundreds of dates from 1900–2100, it differs from the Swiss Ephemeris by less than 1 arcsecond.
The true Lilith is calculated from the Moon's position and speed (Meeus's theory): they define the osculating orbit, and its apogee is found. The accuracy is about 0.2°. Houses use Placidus, as in the ascendant calculator.

Shadow. Lilith in Aries is the shadow of willfulness and aggression. Here a person may deny other people's boundaries, push ahead regardless and believe that might makes right. Or, on the contrary, suppress anger so deeply that it bursts out suddenly and destructively.

No. The Black Moon is a calculated point of the Moon's orbit, while the asteroid 1181 Lilith is a real celestial body with a different position. The calculator computes the Black Moon.
Are the Black Moon and the White Moon (Selena) connected?
In the Russian school, the White Moon (Selena) is the opposite point, a sign of bright guidance. The classical Western tradition does not use it, and different schools calculate Selena's position differently, so the calculator does not show it.
