10th House
The tenth house is the house of career and reputation. Its cusp is the MC, the Midheaven, the highest point of the chart.
What the House Rules
The tenth house rules profession, status, social standing, and how a person is known to strangers. In the classical tradition it also covers one of the parents and any authority over the person.
It is the most visible part of the chart, the opposite of the fourth house, the most hidden.
Planets in the House
The Sun in the tenth house brings a need for recognition and a prominent career. Saturn means a slow but solid rise and responsibility. Jupiter means growth and patrons. Uranus means an unconventional profession and a career that moves in leaps.
A planet near the MC is considered one of the strongest in the chart: it describes what the person will be known for.
Sign on the Cusp and an Empty House
The sign on the MC requires an exact birth time: it changes about every two hours.
If the birth time is unknown, the chart's houses cannot be built, and the whole house-based part of the analysis drops out, leaving only the signs and planetary aspects.
