Gate 3: Ordering
Gate 3, “Ordering”, is a gate of the Sacral Center. Below you will find what it means in the Human Design system, its six lines, the channel it belongs to, and when the Sun passes through it. The chart calculator will show whether you have it.
Meaning of Gate 3
A Sacral Center gate tied to the energy to start something new and bring order to the chaos of change. It gives the ability to bring in the new; the trap is confusion and anxiety in times of uncertainty.
In the system, a gate is always at work if it is active in the chart — at the moment of birth (Personality) or about 88 days before it (Design). If the other gate of its channel is also active, the channel is defined, and the theme of the gate becomes part of the person’s consistent energy.
Where the Gate Sits
- Center: Sacral Center.
- I Ching hexagram: Hexagram 3, Zhun.
- Position on the wheel: from 26°22′30″ Aries to 2°00′ Taurus.
- The Sun in Gate 3: roughly April 16 to 22 (the dates shift by a day in some years).
- Neighbors on the wheel: before it, gate 42; after it, gate 27.
The Six Lines of Gate 3
Each gate is divided into six lines. The line specifies how the theme of the gate shows up in a particular person; in a chart it is written after a dot — for example, 3.4.
- Line 1: Footing at the Start. At the start of something new the person hesitates and first looks for something to lean on. This pause is useful: once they have sized up the situation and found helpers, they move more confidently than if they had rushed ahead blindly.
- Line 2: No Rush Into Alliances. When everything is tangled, the person is offered help or an alliance, but the time for it hasn't come yet. Their strength is calmly waiting for clarity at their own pace and not grabbing the first solution that comes along.
- Line 3: Into the Thicket Without a Guide. The person learns to bring order by trying new things right in the thick of change, and not every attempt goes well. It helps to notice in time that they have wandered into unfamiliar territory without the knowledge for it, and to step back without a sense of defeat.
- Line 4: Help Through Acquaintances. Something new gets off the ground here when the person decides to accept support from people in their circle. The trap is struggling alone out of pride where it would have been enough to ask.
- Line 5: Order in Small Steps. In the general muddle, people look to this person as the one who will quickly sort everything out. It is thought better for them to act gradually and practically: big promises in uncertain times easily damage their reputation.
- Line 6: Dead End, New Start. Sometimes the confusion seems impossible to overcome, and the person feels it keenly. Over the years they learn to look at such periods from above and to see a dead end as a reason to start over, not as a verdict.
Channels
Gate 3 is one half of a channel. A channel is defined when both of its gates are active — in one person or, in a couple, across the two partners.
- Channel 3-60, “Mutation” — its other gate is 60, “Acceptance”, in the Root Center. The channel gives an energy of change that comes in pulses rather than according to plan. In the system, periods of quiet are normal here: the new matures inside and shows itself when its time comes.
All the channels are on the channels page, and Human Design compatibility shows what arises between the charts of two people.
An Honest Look at the Method
Human Design was created in 1987 by one man, Ra Uru Hu, and its claims have never been scientifically tested. We describe the rules of the system as they are and write the interpretations in our own words, not as knowledge about you.
