Gate 27: Caring
Gate 27, “Caring”, is a gate of the Sacral Center. Below you will find what it means in the Human Design system, its six lines, the channel it belongs to, and when the Sun passes through it. The chart calculator will show whether you have it.
Meaning of Gate 27
A Sacral Center gate tied to the energy of caring for others — nourishing, protecting, supporting. It gives generosity and attention to the vulnerable; the trap is forgetting yourself for the sake of everyone else.
In the system, a gate is always at work if it is active in the chart — at the moment of birth (Personality) or about 88 days before it (Design). If the other gate of its channel is also active, the channel is defined, and the theme of the gate becomes part of the person’s consistent energy.
Where the Gate Sits
- Center: Sacral Center.
- I Ching hexagram: Hexagram 27, Yi.
- Position on the wheel: from 2°00′ Taurus to 7°37′30″ Taurus.
- The Sun in Gate 27: roughly April 22 to 28 (the dates shift by a day in some years).
- Neighbors on the wheel: before it, gate 3; after it, gate 24.
The Six Lines of Gate 27
Each gate is divided into six lines. The line specifies how the theme of the gate shows up in a particular person; in a chart it is written after a dot — for example, 27.4.
- Line 1: Caring From Its Own Footing. The first line thinks it important to work out first what it relies on itself, and only then to care for others. The trap is envying other people's resources and forgetting its own; in the system, stability begins with clarity about its own strength.
- Line 2: Self-Reliance in Caring. A person with this line naturally knows how to provide for themselves and dislikes depending on other people's goodwill. In the system, their calm independence becomes an example in itself; the trap is refusing help even when it is really needed.
- Line 3: What Really Sustains. The third line learns from experience which kind of care sustains and which only gives quick pleasure. Mistakes here are thought to teach it to tell real values apart; the trap is chasing the momentary and being disappointed time after time.
- Line 4: Help Through Acquaintances. The fourth line cares for people through its network of acquaintances: it knows who needs what and who can help. In the system, its involvement comes back through those same connections; the trap is giving away more than it has the strength for, just to keep people's goodwill.
- Line 5: Caring Within Its Means. People project onto the fifth line the expectation that it will take care of everyone. It is thought better for it to know the limits of its capabilities honestly and rely on helpers; the trap is shouldering more than it can bear and then hearing reproaches.
- Line 6: A Source of Support. Over time the sixth line becomes a source of support for those around it and an example of sensible caring. In the system, its caution is fitting: giving a lot while making sure that care doesn't turn into control or dependence.
Channels
Gate 27 is one half of a channel. A channel is defined when both of its gates are active — in one person or, in a couple, across the two partners.
- Channel 27-50, “Preservation” — its other gate is 50, “Values”, in the Spleen. The channel gives steady care for others and a sense of responsibility for shared values. A person with it is thought to need to avoid dissolving in caretaking and to keep some resources for themselves.
All the channels are on the channels page, and Human Design compatibility shows what arises between the charts of two people.
An Honest Look at the Method
Human Design was created in 1987 by one man, Ra Uru Hu, and its claims have never been scientifically tested. We describe the rules of the system as they are and write the interpretations in our own words, not as knowledge about you.
