Gate 42 — Growth
Gate 42, “Growth,” is a Sacral Center gate. Below: what it means according to the Human Design system, its six lines, the channel it belongs to and when the Sun passes through it. The chart calculator will show whether you have it.
Meaning of Gate 42
A Sacral Center gate tied to completing cycles and bringing a process to its end. It gives the ability to finish what was started and draw a lesson from it; the trap is abandoning things halfway.
In the system, a gate is always at work if it is active in the chart — at the moment of birth (Personality) or about 88 days before it (Design). If the other gate of its channel is also active, the channel is defined, and the theme of the gate becomes part of the person’s consistent energy.
Where the Gate Sits
- Center: Sacral Center.
- I Ching hexagram: hexagram 42, Yi.
- Position on the wheel: from 20°45′ Aries to 26°22′30″ Aries.
- The Sun in Gate 42: roughly from April 10 to 16 (the dates shift by a day from year to year).
- Neighbors on the wheel: Gate 51 comes before it, Gate 3 after it.
The Six Lines of Gate 42
Each gate is divided into six lines. The line shows how the gate's theme plays out in a particular person; in the chart it is written after the dot — for example, 42.4.
- Line 1: Using a Tailwind. Having received support or a resource, the first line is able to invest it in a big undertaking. It is thought important for it to study first what exactly to direct growth toward; the trap is taking on a lot and finishing nothing.
- Line 2: Steady Increase. The second line grows naturally when it stays on its chosen path, and others recognize its successes. In the system, growth comes to it not from fuss but from loyalty to work it has a response to.
- Line 3: Benefit From Setbacks. The third line draws benefit even from unpleasant events: it is precisely in difficulties that it learns how to see a thing through. Honesty about what went wrong is thought to matter for it; the trap is hiding mistakes.
- Line 4: A Balanced Voice. The fourth line takes a balanced position, so its advice is heeded when major changes need to be carried out. In the system, its growth comes through the trust of acquaintances, and it sees shared work through by reconciling the interests of all sides.
- Line 5: Kindness Without Calculation. The fifth line helps others grow without expecting gratitude, and over time this is exactly what people notice. Generosity is expected of it; sincere involvement is thought to work better for it than any strategy.
- Line 6: Sharing the Fruits. The sixth line knows from experience that growth from which no one else benefits is quickly cut short. In the system, its example is sharing the fruits of completed cycles; the trap is inconstancy and being shut up in its own gain.
Channels
Gate 42 is one half of a channel. A channel is defined when both of its gates are active — in one person or, in a couple, across two people.
- Channel 42-53 “Maturation” — the partner gate is 53 “Beginnings” in the Root Center. The channel gives energy to start new cycles and bring them to completion. In the system, it is important to enter things from response; then the experience goes through all its stages and matures.
All the channels are on the channels page, and Human Design compatibility shows what arises between the charts of two people.
An Honest Look at the Method
