Gate 36: Crisis
Gate 36, “Crisis”, is a gate of the Solar Plexus. Below you will find what it means in the Human Design system, its six lines, the channel it belongs to, and when the Sun passes through it. The chart calculator will show whether you have it.
Meaning of Gate 36
A Solar Plexus gate tied to emotional crises and inexperience. It gives the possibility of reaching depth through new experiences; the trap is rushing into experience without waiting for emotional clarity.
In the system, a gate is always at work if it is active in the chart — at the moment of birth (Personality) or about 88 days before it (Design). If the other gate of its channel is also active, the channel is defined, and the theme of the gate becomes part of the person’s consistent energy.
Where the Gate Sits
- Center: Solar Plexus.
- I Ching hexagram: Hexagram 36, Ming Yi.
- Position on the wheel: from 22°37′30″ Pisces to 28°15′ Pisces.
- The Sun in Gate 36: roughly March 13 to 18 (the dates shift by a day in some years).
- Neighbors on the wheel: before it, gate 22; after it, gate 25.
The Six Lines of Gate 36
Each gate is divided into six lines. The line specifies how the theme of the gate shows up in a particular person; in a chart it is written after a dot — for example, 36.4.
- Line 1: Walking Through Turmoil. In a difficult period the first line seeks understanding: what is happening and what can be relied on. It is thought to feel uneasy when others disapprove of its path; it helps to keep going without wasting energy on arguments.
- Line 2: Helping While Hurt. Even while going through its own crisis, the second line finds the strength to support others, and those around it value this before it does. In the system, it is important for it to spend time alone afterward so that its feelings can settle.
- Line 3: Change Doesn't Happen Overnight. The third line boldly takes on a crisis and often finds its root. But the changes after that come gradually, and experience teaches it not to expect instant results from a single successful breakthrough.
- Line 4: Seeing Inside, Then Leaving. Through its close circle, the fourth line learns what really lies behind a tense situation. This knowledge is thought to help it get out in time, without waiting for the emotional storm to reach it as well.
- Line 5: Keeping the Light Inside. The fifth line can wait out unfavorable circumstances without parading its views. People expect solutions from it in a crisis; in the system, it helps better when it keeps its inner steadiness and doesn't enter into open conflict.
- Line 6: A Dark Stretch Doesn't Last. The sixth line has seen what seemed strong collapse under its own weight. Its mature example is a calm confidence that the crisis will pass; the trap is merely watching where its experience could help.
Channels
Gate 36 is one half of a channel. A channel is defined when both of its gates are active — in one person or, in a couple, across the two partners.
- Channel 35-36, “Transitoriness” — its other gate is 35, “Change”, in the Throat Center. The channel gives a pull toward new experiences and change once the old has grown stale. Experience here is thought to accumulate through trial and error, and value appears when what has been lived through becomes wisdom.
All the channels are on the channels page, and Human Design compatibility shows what arises between the charts of two people.
An Honest Look at the Method
