Gate 35: Change
Gate 35, “Change”, is a gate of the Throat Center. Below you will find what it means in the Human Design system, its six lines, the channel it belongs to, and when the Sun passes through it. The chart calculator will show whether you have it.
Meaning of Gate 35
A Throat Center gate tied to a hunger for new experience and progress. It gives versatility and the ability to talk about what you have lived through; the trap is boredom and chasing experiences for their own sake.
In the system, a gate is always at work if it is active in the chart — at the moment of birth (Personality) or about 88 days before it (Design). If the other gate of its channel is also active, the channel is defined, and the theme of the gate becomes part of the person’s consistent energy.
Where the Gate Sits
- Center: Throat Center.
- I Ching hexagram: Hexagram 35, Jin.
- Position on the wheel: from 11°22′30″ Gemini to 17°00′ Gemini.
- The Sun in Gate 35: roughly June 1 to 7 (the dates shift by a day in some years).
- Neighbors on the wheel: before it, gate 16; after it, gate 45.
The Six Lines of Gate 35
Each gate is divided into six lines. The line specifies how the theme of the gate shows up in a particular person; in a chart it is written after a dot — for example, 35.4.
- Line 1: First Steps Into the New. The first line wants change but first studies where the new experience leads. If it is not taken seriously right away, it helps not to argue but to calmly carry on; the trap is abandoning what it has started at the first sign of distrust.
- Line 2: Support From the Experienced. The second line approaches the new hesitantly and doesn't always see the value of its own experience. Support is thought to often come from older or more experienced people who notice its abilities before it does.
- Line 3: Trust of Companions. The third line tests the new together with others and learns through shared trials. In the system, it is easier for it to move forward when its companions agree with the direction, and failed experiments become a useful lesson for everyone.
- Line 4: Not Hoarding Impressions. Through acquaintances, the fourth line gets many opportunities for new experience. The trap is grabbing everything and clinging to the gain without sharing anything; openness within its close circle is thought to protect it from this.
- Line 5: Not Counting Losses. The fifth line is able to move forward without weighing every loss and every gain. Others expect confidence about change from it, and it provides that when it doesn't fixate on the result; the trap is promising success that comes too easily.
- Line 6: Putting Its Own House in Order. Having gathered experience of change, the sixth line directs its drive above all at its own shortcomings. In the system, its example is bringing order to its own life rather than remaking others; the trap is being too strict with itself.
Channels
Gate 35 is one half of a channel. A channel is defined when both of its gates are active — in one person or, in a couple, across the two partners.
- Channel 35-36, “Transitoriness” — its other gate is 36, “Crisis”, in the Solar Plexus. The channel gives a pull toward new experiences and change once the old has grown stale. Experience here is thought to accumulate through trial and error, and value appears when what has been lived through becomes wisdom.
All the channels are on the channels page, and Human Design compatibility shows what arises between the charts of two people.
An Honest Look at the Method
