Gate 25: Spirit of the Self
Gate 25, “Spirit of the Self”, is a gate of the G Center. Below you will find what it means in the Human Design system, its six lines, the channel it belongs to, and when the Sun passes through it. The chart calculator will show whether you have it.
Meaning of Gate 25
A G Center gate tied to unconditional love and innocence. It gives trust in life and the ability to accept all living things; in the system, this love matures through trials.
In the system, a gate is always at work if it is active in the chart — at the moment of birth (Personality) or about 88 days before it (Design). If the other gate of its channel is also active, the channel is defined, and the theme of the gate becomes part of the person’s consistent energy.
Where the Gate Sits
- Center: G Center.
- I Ching hexagram: Hexagram 25, Wu Wang.
- Position on the wheel: from 28°15′ Pisces to 3°52′30″ Aries.
- The Sun in Gate 25: roughly March 18 to 24 (the dates shift by a day in some years).
- Neighbors on the wheel: before it, gate 36; after it, gate 17.
The Six Lines of Gate 25
Each gate is divided into six lines. The line specifies how the theme of the gate shows up in a particular person; in a chart it is written after a dot — for example, 25.4.
- Line 1: An Innocent Beginning. The first line acts on a sincere impulse without calculating the benefit. Such spontaneity is thought to help it if it understands what it is getting into; the trap is mistaking trust in life for carelessness.
- Line 2: Doing It for Its Own Sake. A person with this line can do something simply because it is right, without thinking of a reward. In the system, such pure motives attract people; the trap is withdrawing from the world and deciding that the result doesn't matter at all.
- Line 3: Undeserved Trials. The third line runs into troubles it didn't deserve and learns not to lose its openness. Such incidents are thought to test its trust in life; the trap is growing bitter and deciding it is not safe to love the world.
- Line 4: True to Its Nature. The fourth line stays kind within its circle even when circumstances are difficult. In the system, the steadiness of its attitude toward people is its main resource; the trap is changing itself to fit other people's expectations.
- Line 5: Not Intervening Without Need. People project onto the fifth line the expectation that it will fix everything. Difficulties that are not its fault are thought to often pass on their own if no sudden steps are taken; the trap is rushing to the rescue where it would be better to let time do its work.
- Line 6: A Sense of Timing. Over time the sixth line understands that even a sincere impulse can come at the wrong moment. In the system, its maturity lies in being able to wait when circumstances are unfavorable and to keep an open heart until the right moment.
Channels
Gate 25 is one half of a channel. A channel is defined when both of its gates are active — in one person or, in a couple, across the two partners.
- Channel 25-51, “Initiation” — its other gate is 51, “Shock”, in the Heart (Ego). The channel gives the courage to go toward the unknown and pass through shocks. Such a person is thought to be the first to live through upheavals and thereby clear the way for others.
All the channels are on the channels page, and Human Design compatibility shows what arises between the charts of two people.
An Honest Look at the Method
Human Design was created in 1987 by one man, Ra Uru Hu, and its claims have never been scientifically tested. We describe the rules of the system as they are and write the interpretations in our own words, not as knowledge about you.
