25
Hexagram 25, Wu Wang — “Innocence,” the absence of ulterior motive. It is about acting without hidden intent.
The image of the hexagram
Below is the trigram Zhen (thunder), above is Qian (heaven). Heaven over thunder: the storm goes its own way, without anyone's calculation — an image of naturalness.
General meaning
The answer is favorable on one condition: no scheming. Wu Wang says that in this situation sincerity and the natural course of things work, while cunning will inevitably come to light. The classical commentary gives the example of unexpected misfortune striking someone who had nothing to do with it: not everything depends on you, and that's no reason to change your behavior.
In love and at work
In relationships — honesty without strategy, a conversation without preparation; trying to “present yourself the right way” spoils everything here. At work — doing your job as it is, without manipulation and without trying to get around the rules. For intrigue or an elaborate scheme, the hexagram is bad.
What to do
Say it and do it directly, without a plan. In this situation, the very absence of hidden intent works in your favor.
