Qian
Qian: three yang lines, pure active force. Heaven, the father, metal, northwest.
Symbolism
Qian stands for heaven not as space but as an active principle: initiative, power, movement without obstruction. In family symbolism it is the father, in the state it is the ruler, in a person it is will and the capacity to begin.
Its feng shui element is metal, its direction northwest, its season late autumn.
In a hexagram
In the lower position, Qian means that strength and initiative are yours: you are driving the situation. In the upper position, it means that circumstances are active and demanding — there are bosses, pressure, someone else’s will.
Two Qian trigrams make hexagram 1: pure creative force without form.
In feng shui
The northwest sector is associated with the father, patrons and elders; fire is avoided there because fire melts metal. People with Kua number 6 belong to Qian.
