Dui
Dui: two yang lines with a yin line on top. Lake, the youngest daughter, metal, west.
Symbolism
The image is still water, a lake: a firm base and a soft, reflective surface. Hence the meanings of joy, communication and pleasure, and also of speech — Dui is associated with the mouth.
Element: metal; direction: west; season: autumn.
In a hexagram
In the lower position, Dui means inner lightness and openness, a readiness to be glad. In the upper position, it means pleasant surroundings, friendly people, an atmosphere in which it is easy to come to an agreement.
Two Dui trigrams make hexagram 58, “Joy.”
In feng shui
The west sector governs children and creativity. Kua number 7 belongs to Dui. Dui’s metal nature is softer than Qian’s: not a weapon, but an ornament.
