Zhen
Zhen: a yang line at the bottom and two yin lines above it. Thunder, the eldest son, wood, east.
Symbolism
The yang line at the very bottom is a force that has only just appeared and is straining upward. Hence the image of thunder: suddenness, a jolt, the start of movement.
Its feng shui element is wood, its direction east, its season spring. Zhen is associated with the feet and with growth.
In a hexagram
In the lower position, Zhen means an inner impulse: you can’t sit still, movement has begun. In the upper position, it means an outside shock — news, an event that came from outside.
Two Zhen trigrams make hexagram 51, “Thunder.”
In feng shui
The east sector governs health and family. Kua number 3 belongs to Zhen. Wood here is supported with water and not suppressed with metal.
