Kun
Kun: three yin lines, pure receptive force. Earth, the mother, southwest.
Symbolism
Kun is the opposite of Qian: not initiative but gestation. The earth receives the seed, bears the weight, and gives form to whatever is placed in it. Hence the meanings of patience, devotion, service and care.
Direction: southwest; season: late summer. Kun is associated with the belly, with the crowd and with fertility.
In a hexagram
In the lower position, Kun means a readiness to accept and carry out, an absence of your own initiative. In the upper position, it means soft, yielding circumstances, surroundings that offer no resistance.
Two Kun trigrams make hexagram 2, “The Receptive.”
In feng shui
The southwest sector governs relationships and marriage. Kua number 2 belongs to Kun. Earth is supported with fire and weakened with wood.
