One Rune

One rune is the simplest spread: one sign for one question. Press the button below and the calculator will draw a rune from the 24 signs of the Elder Futhark, taking into account that the eight symmetrical runes have no reversed position.

Calculation

How to Ask the Question

A single rune is poor at choosing between two options and good at questions like “what matters most in this situation right now” and “how should I act.” Formulate the question before the draw and don’t change it once you see the result.

A common mistake is drawing again and again until a pleasant rune comes up. At that point the result stops meaning anything, even to the person doing the reading.

How to Read the Result

First the rune’s general meaning, then its position. A reversed rune usually means the same thing, but blocked, delayed, or turned against you.

If the rune seems irrelevant, look not at the prediction but at the advice: every rune has a practical layer — act, wait, protect yourself, let go.

Rune of the Day

The same spread is used as a rune of the day: you draw it in the morning and see which theme will be central today. It isn’t a prediction of events but a frame for your attention.

For a “yes or no” question, Sowilo, Wunjo, Gebo, and Dagaz are conventionally considered favorable; Hagalaz, Nauthiz, Isa, and Thurisaz negative.

How the Randomness Works

The rune is chosen by the browser’s random number generator, and each one has a probability of exactly 1 in 24. The position is determined by a separate toss for the sixteen runes that can land reversed.

This is genuine randomness, and it depends neither on your question nor on previous results.
