Gate 37 — Friendship

Meaning of Gate 37

A Solar Plexus gate tied to warmth, family and agreements. It gives the ability to create community and support; in the system, relationships here rest on mutual obligations and loyalty.

In the system, a gate is always at work if it is active in the chart — at the moment of birth (Personality) or about 88 days before it (Design). If the other gate of its channel is also active, the channel is defined, and the theme of the gate becomes part of the person’s consistent energy.

Where the Gate Sits

• Center: Solar Plexus.
• I Ching hexagram: hexagram 37, Jia Ren.
• Position on the wheel: from 5°45′ Pisces to 11°22′30″ Pisces.
• The Sun in Gate 37: roughly from February 24 to March 2 (the dates shift by a day from year to year).
• Neighbors on the wheel: Gate 55 comes before it, Gate 63 after it.

The Six Lines of Gate 37

Each gate is divided into six lines. The line shows how the gate's theme plays out in a particular person; in the chart it is written after the dot — for example, 37.4.

• Line 1: Rules From the Very Start. The first line builds friendship and family on clear agreements made in advance. Clear rules are thought to give it footing and spare it misunderstandings later; the trap is a frame that is too rigid.
• Line 2: Quiet Care for the Home. The second line supports those close to it without many words, simply making sure everyone has what they need. Others see this as its talent; in the system, it is important that caring doesn't turn into a duty with no breaks.
• Line 3: The Right Degree of Strictness. The third line looks through experience for a balance between strictness and gentleness in relationships. In the system, mistakes in both directions are inevitable and useful for it: this is how it learns what kind of demands keep the warmth.
• Line 4: Prosperity for Its Own People. The fourth line knows how to increase shared well-being and share it with its close circle. Its support is thought to be tangible and practical; the trap is measuring relationships by material contribution alone.
• Line 5: Support Without Pressure. The fifth line takes on the role of head of the community, and people expect protection and decisions from it. In the system, its influence rests on trust and warmth; the trap is trying to keep order through fear and pressure.
• Line 6: A Word to Rely On. Over time the sixth line becomes the one whose word can be relied on in family and friendship. Its example is built on consistency; respect for it is thought to grow when it keeps its own promises.

Channels

Gate 37 is one half of a channel. A channel is defined when both of its gates are active — in one person or, in a couple, across two people.

• Channel 37-40 “Community” — the partner gate is 40 “Aloneness” in the Heart (Ego). The channel gives the ability to build relationships on agreements: I invest in the common good, and the common good supports me. In the system, an honest balance between work and rest matters here.

All the channels are on the channels page, and Human Design compatibility shows what arises between the charts of two people.

An Honest Look at the Method

Human Design was created in 1987 by one man, Ra Uru Hu, and its claims have never been scientifically tested. We describe the rules of the system as they are and write the interpretations in our own words, not as knowledge about you.
