Gate 55 — Spirit

Gate 55, “Spirit,” is a Solar Plexus gate. Below: what it means according to the Human Design system, its six lines, the channel it belongs to and when the Sun passes through it. The chart calculator will show whether you have it.

Meaning of Gate 55

A Solar Plexus gate tied to waves of mood — from melancholy to a sense of the fullness of life. It gives emotional depth and creative potential; the trap is looking for an outside cause for every swing.

In the system, a gate is always at work if it is active in the chart — at the moment of birth (Personality) or about 88 days before it (Design). If the other gate of its channel is also active, the channel is defined, and the theme of the gate becomes part of the person’s consistent energy.

Where the Gate Sits

  • Center: Solar Plexus.
  • I Ching hexagram: hexagram 55, Feng.
  • Position on the wheel: from 0°07′30″ Pisces to 5°45′ Pisces.
  • The Sun in Gate 55: roughly from February 18 to 24 (the dates shift by a day from year to year).
  • Neighbors on the wheel: Gate 30 comes before it, Gate 37 after it.

The Six Lines of Gate 55

Each gate is divided into six lines. The line shows how the gate's theme plays out in a particular person; in the chart it is written after the dot — for example, 55.4.

  • Line 1: Meeting an Equal. The first line looks for a person or a cause alongside which its emotional wave finds support. In the system, a union with a fitting partner unlocks its creative potential; the trap is expecting such fullness to last unchanged.
  • Line 2: Stars at Midday. At times the second line seems to fall into shadow and feels misunderstood by those around it. Sincerity rather than pressure is thought to help it break through distrust: genuine feeling reaches others in time.
  • Line 3: Hands Tied. The third line goes through periods when, for all its inner richness, it can't manage to act. In the system, this is a feature of the moment, not its fault; experience of such lulls teaches it not to fight the mood but to wait for things to clear.
  • Line 4: A Kindred Ally. The fourth line comes out of a gloomy stretch by meeting kindred spirits. Its emotional depth unfolds among those who share its mood; the risk is looking for rescue only in outside support.
  • Line 5: Talents Brought Together. The fifth line is expected to unite people and steer them in a common direction. In the system, its strength lies in openness to advice and the ability to notice others' abilities: this way abundance becomes shared, and its reputation grows.
  • Line 6: A House Behind a High Wall. Having reached fullness, the sixth line risks walling itself off from people and enjoying it alone. Its example is thought to be valuable when it shares its wealth of feeling and experience rather than hiding it behind a wall.

Channels

Gate 55 is one half of a channel. A channel is defined when both of its gates are active — in one person or, in a couple, across two people.

  • Channel 39-55 “Emoting” — the partner gate is 39 “Provocation” in the Root Center. The channel gives deep shifts of mood and creative sensitivity. Melancholy here is thought not necessarily to be a problem: inspiration is often born of it, if it isn't rushed.

All the channels are on the channels page, and Human Design compatibility shows what arises between the charts of two people.
