Gate 30: Recognition of Feelings
Gate 30, “Recognition of Feelings”, is a gate of the Solar Plexus. Below you will find what it means in the Human Design system, its six lines, the channel it belongs to, and when the Sun passes through it. The chart calculator will show whether you have it.
Meaning of Gate 30
A Solar Plexus gate tied to strong desires and a hunger for new experience. It gives a vivid experience of feelings; the trap is expecting everything to turn out exactly as imagined.
In the system, a gate is always at work if it is active in the chart — at the moment of birth (Personality) or about 88 days before it (Design). If the other gate of its channel is also active, the channel is defined, and the theme of the gate becomes part of the person’s consistent energy.
Where the Gate Sits
- Center: Solar Plexus.
- I Ching hexagram: Hexagram 30, Li.
- Position on the wheel: from 24°30′ Aquarius to 0°07′30″ Pisces.
- The Sun in Gate 30: roughly February 13 to 18 (the dates shift by a day in some years).
- Neighbors on the wheel: before it, gate 49; after it, gate 55.
The Six Lines of Gate 30
Each gate is divided into six lines. The line specifies how the theme of the gate shows up in a particular person; in a chart it is written after a dot — for example, 30.4.
- Line 1: Clarity at the Start. The first line meets new desires with a mass of impressions at once and tries to sort them out before acting. A calm start is thought to help it not scatter itself and to live the feeling consciously.
- Line 2: Measure in Desires. A person with this line naturally has a sense of measure in their aspirations and doesn't rush to extremes. In the system, their calm clarity is noticeable to others; the trap is stifling strong feelings and mistaking that for balance.
- Line 3: Accepting Change. The third line learns from experience that every experience sooner or later comes to an end. It is thought important for it not to cling to what is passing and not to despair: being able to let go makes the next experience freer.
- Line 4: Flare and Fade. The fourth line catches fire with new desires together with its circle and can cool off just as quickly. In the system, it helps to pace its strength: too bright a start with no reserve leaves fatigue and disappointment for it and those close to it.
- Line 5: A Deep Rethink. The fifth line is expected to live through strong feelings beautifully and confidently. Its path is thought to be honestly admitting disappointment and reconsidering its expectations; in the end such an experience brings clarity.
- Line 6: Choosing the Main Desire. Over time the sixth line learns to separate its main desire from secondary ones and put its aspirations in order without excessive rigidity. In the system, its example is a clear choice of what is worth burning for.
Channels
Gate 30 is one half of a channel. A channel is defined when both of its gates are active — in one person or, in a couple, across the two partners.
- Channel 30-41, “Recognition” — its other gate is 41, “Contraction”, in the Root Center. The channel gives a strong desire for new experiences and fantasies about what they could be like. In the system, expectations here often diverge from reality, and it is precisely in this gap that experience accumulates.
All the channels are on the channels page, and Human Design compatibility shows what arises between the charts of two people.
An Honest Look at the Method
Human Design was created in 1987 by one man, Ra Uru Hu, and its claims have never been scientifically tested. We describe the rules of the system as they are and write the interpretations in our own words, not as knowledge about you.
