Gate 29: Perseverance
Gate 29, “Perseverance”, is a gate of the Sacral Center. Below you will find what it means in the Human Design system, its six lines, the channel it belongs to, and when the Sun passes through it. The chart calculator will show whether you have it.
Meaning of Gate 29
A Sacral Center gate tied to saying yes and the ability to see things through. It gives endurance; in the system, it is worth agreeing only to what you have a response to, otherwise it is easy to get stuck in other people's commitments.
In the system, a gate is always at work if it is active in the chart — at the moment of birth (Personality) or about 88 days before it (Design). If the other gate of its channel is also active, the channel is defined, and the theme of the gate becomes part of the person’s consistent energy.
Where the Gate Sits
- Center: Sacral Center.
- I Ching hexagram: Hexagram 29, Kan.
- Position on the wheel: from 24°30′ Leo to 0°07′30″ Virgo.
- The Sun in Gate 29: roughly August 17 to 23 (the dates shift by a day in some years).
- Neighbors on the wheel: before it, gate 4; after it, gate 59.
The Six Lines of Gate 29
Each gate is divided into six lines. The line specifies how the theme of the gate shows up in a particular person; in a chart it is written after a dot — for example, 29.4.
- Line 1: Saying Yes With Eyes Open. The first line is easily drawn into something if it hasn't found out in advance what it is agreeing to. It is thought to help to study a commitment before saying “yes”: then perseverance serves it rather than pulling it into a familiar rut.
- Line 2: In Small Steps. In a difficult situation, a person with this line naturally chooses small, manageable steps. In the system, their endurance unfolds when they don't take on everything at once; the trap is agreeing to big commitments under pressure from others.
- Line 3: A Pause Amid Difficulties. The third line goes from one difficult situation to another and learns from the experience. It is thought useful for it to stop and look around first rather than charge ahead: perseverance without a pause only deepens the difficulties.
- Line 4: Simplicity in Commitments. The fourth line comes to agreements with people in its circle simply and directly, without unnecessary ceremony. In the system, its sincere “yes” strengthens connections; the trap is agreeing out of politeness to something it has no response to.
- Line 5: No More Than Needed. The fifth line is expected to take on more than others and cope. It is thought better for it to do exactly what it has the strength for: overloading itself for the sake of others' expectations undermines both endurance and reputation.
- Line 6: Out of the Tangle. The sixth line can get stuck for a long time in commitments that lost their meaning long ago. In the system, over time it learns to see the situation from above and get out of it; its example shows how important it is to review your “yes” in time.
Channels
Gate 29 is one half of a channel. A channel is defined when both of its gates are active — in one person or, in a couple, across the two partners.
- Channel 29-46, “Discovery” — its other gate is 46, “Determination of the Self”, in the G Center. The channel gives the ability to immerse yourself fully in what you have agreed to and go through the experience to the end. Success is thought to come through staying true to a choice made from response.
All the channels are on the channels page, and Human Design compatibility shows what arises between the charts of two people.
An Honest Look at the Method
Human Design was created in 1987 by one man, Ra Uru Hu, and its claims have never been scientifically tested. We describe the rules of the system as they are and write the interpretations in our own words, not as knowledge about you.
