30
Hexagram 30, Li: “Radiance,” literally “clinging.” A fire burns only as long as it has fuel.
The image of the hexagram
The hexagram is made of two identical Li trigrams (fire). Fire over fire: a double flame, a light that needs something to hold on to.
General meaning
The answer is favorable, on condition that you are anchored. Li speaks of clarity, visibility and intellectual uplift, and reminds you that this light is dependent: without support it goes out. The classic text advises holding to the middle and not being blinded by your own brilliance; burning brightly uses up its base quickly.
In love and at work
In relationships: passion and admiration that run on novelty; to last, they need something beyond that. At work: public exposure, teaching, creative clarity, recognition. For long, monotonous work the hexagram is weak.
What to do
Use the clarity you have now, and name what it rests on. Keep adding fuel while the fire is burning.
