The image of the hexagram
Below is the Gen trigram (mountain), above is Dui (lake). A lake over a mountain: stillness below, joy above — the mutual response of masculine and feminine.
General meaning
The answer is favorable, especially for questions about people. Xian describes a mutual attraction that arises on its own and needs no forcing. The classic text sets one condition: the influence must be gentle — nudge rather than push, wait for a response rather than demand it.
In love and at work
In relationships: one of the best hexagrams — reciprocity, the beginning of intimacy, readiness for a union; traditionally associated with marriage. At work: influence through persuasion, a good moment to propose a partnership. It does not suit a solution by force at all.
What to do
Make the first gentle move and give the response time. What works here is attraction, not pressure.
