Gate 14: Power Skills

Gate 14, “Power Skills”, is a gate of the Sacral Center. Below you will find what it means in the Human Design system, its six lines, the channel it belongs to, and when the Sun passes through it. The chart calculator will show whether you have it.

Meaning of Gate 14

A Sacral Center gate tied to the energy for work and for accumulating resources. It gives the power to support the direction you have a response to; the trap is spending yourself on work without an inner response.

In the system, a gate is always at work if it is active in the chart — at the moment of birth (Personality) or about 88 days before it (Design). If the other gate of its channel is also active, the channel is defined, and the theme of the gate becomes part of the person’s consistent energy.

Where the Gate Sits

  • Center: Sacral Center.
  • I Ching hexagram: Hexagram 14, Da You.
  • Position on the wheel: from 24°30′ Scorpio to 0°07′30″ Sagittarius.
  • The Sun in Gate 14: roughly November 16 to 22 (the dates shift by a day in some years).
  • Neighbors on the wheel: before it, gate 43; after it, gate 34.

The Six Lines of Gate 14

Each gate is divided into six lines. The line specifies how the theme of the gate shows up in a particular person; in a chart it is written after a dot — for example, 14.4.

  • Line 1: Abundance Without Carelessness. The person builds resources on a good understanding of their work and keeps possible difficulties in mind. The weak spot is deciding that what has been accumulated protects against mistakes and ceasing to study the situation.
  • Line 2: The Big Wagon. The person has a natural capacity to work hard and handle a large volume of tasks. They don't always value this themselves, but others notice their strength and readily trust them with big undertakings.
  • Line 3: Resources for the Common Good. The person tries out how to use their strength and means and learns that they do more good when shared. The trap is clinging to what has been accumulated; through failures they learn to let go.
  • Line 4: No Rivalry With the Neighbors. The person spends their energy calmly, without measuring their wealth against those around them. This is thought to be how they keep the trust of their circle, through which opportunities come to them.
  • Line 5: Approachable With Dignity. People expect support and resources from this person, and they can be open without losing inner dignity. It is important not to confuse generosity with an obligation to carry everyone who turns to them.
  • Line 6: Calm in Abundance. With maturity comes the understanding that strength and resources serve more than just oneself. Their example lies in a calm attitude to their wealth: they don't make it the measure of their own worth.

Channels

Gate 14 is one half of a channel. A channel is defined when both of its gates are active — in one person or, in a couple, across the two partners.

  • Channel 2-14, “The Beat” — its other gate is 2, “Direction of the Self”, in the G Center. The channel connects the direction of life with the resources of the Sacral. It is thought to give the energy to follow your own course and the ability to manage resources when there is a response to the work.

All the channels are on the channels page, and Human Design compatibility shows what arises between the charts of two people.

An Honest Look at the Method
