Gate 11: Ideas

Gate 11, “Ideas”, is a gate of the Ajna. Below you will find what it means in the Human Design system, its six lines, the channel it belongs to, and when the Sun passes through it. The chart calculator will show whether you have it.

Meaning of Gate 11

An Ajna gate tied to a flow of ideas and images. It gives a rich imagination and material for stories and teaching; the ideas here are thought to be more for sharing than for necessarily putting into practice.

In the system, a gate is always at work if it is active in the chart — at the moment of birth (Personality) or about 88 days before it (Design). If the other gate of its channel is also active, the channel is defined, and the theme of the gate becomes part of the person’s consistent energy.

Where the Gate Sits

  • Center: Ajna.
  • I Ching hexagram: Hexagram 11, Tai.
  • Position on the wheel: from 22°37′30″ Sagittarius to 28°15′ Sagittarius.
  • The Sun in Gate 11: roughly December 14 to 20 (the dates shift by a day in some years).
  • Neighbors on the wheel: before it, gate 26; after it, gate 10.

The Six Lines of Gate 11

Each gate is divided into six lines. The line specifies how the theme of the gate shows up in a particular person; in a chart it is written after a dot — for example, 11.4.

  • Line 1: Kindred Spirits Around an Idea. The person's ideas ripen out of study, and like-minded people easily gather around a good thought. It is important for them to check the foundation first, so as not to draw people in with empty fantasy.
  • Line 2: Breadth Without Bias. The person carries many images inside and doesn't divide people into “us” and “them”. Solitude helps their ideas settle, and it is useful to share them not only with those close by but also with those far away.
  • Line 3: Ideas Rise and Fall. The person learns from experience that inspiration is followed by a time of doubt, and then by new thoughts again. Accepting this cycle, they don't lose faith in their ideas after the first failure.
  • Line 4: Sharing Without Superiority. The person naturally passes their ideas on to their circle of acquaintances — simply and without boasting. This is thought to be exactly how images and stories find the people who really need them.
  • Line 5: An Idea as Common Property. People are drawn to this person for inspiration, and they can turn their idea into a shared cause without demanding credit for it. The trap is promising that their images will definitely work, when they are only an offer.
  • Line 6: When the Bloom Fades. Watching from the side, the person notices when an idea's time is passing and doesn't try to hold on to it by force. They show that one can calmly return to the inner circle and wait for new images.

Channels

Gate 11 is one half of a channel. A channel is defined when both of its gates are active — in one person or, in a couple, across the two partners.

  • Channel 11-56, “Curiosity” — its other gate is 56, “Stimulation”, in the Throat Center. The channel gives a search for ideas and the ability to turn experience into stories that captivate others. Its strength is thought to lie in inspiring and sharing, not in proving facts.

All the channels are on the channels page, and Human Design compatibility shows what arises between the charts of two people.

An Honest Look at the Method

Human Design was created in 1987 by one man, Ra Uru Hu, and its claims have never been scientifically tested. We describe the rules of the system as they are and write the interpretations in our own words, not as knowledge about you.
