Gate 5 — Fixed Rhythms
Gate 5, “Fixed Rhythms,” is a Sacral Center gate. Below: what it means according to the Human Design system, its six lines, the channel it belongs to and when the Sun passes through it. The chart calculator will show whether you have it.
Meaning of Gate 5
A Sacral Center gate tied to personal rhythms and a familiar daily routine. It gives stability and the ability to wait for your moment; the trap is strong irritation when the rhythm is disrupted from outside.
In the system, a gate is always at work if it is active in the chart — at the moment of birth (Personality) or about 88 days before it (Design). If the other gate of its channel is also active, the channel is defined, and the theme of the gate becomes part of the person’s consistent energy.
Where the Gate Sits
- Center: Sacral Center.
- I Ching hexagram: hexagram 5, Xu.
- Position on the wheel: from 11°22′30″ Sagittarius to 17°00′ Sagittarius.
- The Sun in Gate 5: roughly from December 3 to 9 (the dates shift by a day from year to year).
- Neighbors on the wheel: Gate 9 comes before it, Gate 26 after it.
The Six Lines of Gate 5
Each gate is divided into six lines. The line shows how the gate's theme plays out in a particular person; in the chart it is written after the dot — for example, 5.4.
- Line 1: Relying on Familiar Order. The person feels secure when the day has a clear structure. In the system, it helps them to study their own rhythm and keep to it, not changing course over worries that are still far off.
- Line 2: Own Pace Despite the Gossip. Living by their own rhythm, the person may seem slow to others, and people start talking about them. Their strength is not getting drawn into gossip and keeping their own pace until time shows they were right.
- Line 3: A Hasty Step. Impatience pushes the person to break their own rhythm and move too early, and this creates unnecessary difficulties. Through such experience they learn where waiting is useful and where they are simply stuck.
- Line 4: Out of a Hard Wait. When waiting becomes heavy, the person finds a way out with the help of acquaintances and familiar supports. It is important for them not to make sudden moves but to find those who will help them get back into their rhythm.
- Line 5: A Calm Pause. The person knows how to use a pause and not fuss while things ripen. Others see them as an example of confident patience, and it is important for them not to promise results sooner than events allow.
- Line 6: Uninvited Guests. Sometimes the familiar order collapses, and unexpected people or circumstances come into life. With experience the person learns to receive them with respect and sees that the unplanned often turns out to be a support.
Channels
Gate 5 is one half of a channel. A channel is defined when both of its gates are active — in one person or, in a couple, across two people.
- Channel 5-15 “Rhythm” — the partner gate is 15 “Extremes” in the G Center. The channel gives a steady rhythm of your own in work, sleep and habits. A person with it is thought to do best by not breaking this rhythm to fit someone else's schedule — then they feel in the flow.
All the channels are on the channels page, and Human Design compatibility shows what arises between the charts of two people.
An Honest Look at the Method
Human Design was created in 1987 by one man, Ra Uru Hu, and its claims have never been scientifically tested. We describe the rules of the system as they are and write the interpretations in our own words, not as knowledge about you.
