Gate 47 — Realization

Gate 47, “Realization,” is an Ajna gate. Below: what it means according to the Human Design system, its six lines, the channel it belongs to and when the Sun passes through it. The chart calculator will show whether you have it.

Meaning of Gate 47

An Ajna gate tied to making sense of past experience. It gives the ability to find meaning in a confusing situation; the trap is pressure and anxiety when the answer doesn't come right away.

In the system, a gate is always at work if it is active in the chart — at the moment of birth (Personality) or about 88 days before it (Design). If the other gate of its channel is also active, the channel is defined, and the theme of the gate becomes part of the person’s consistent energy.

Where the Gate Sits

  • Center: Ajna.
  • I Ching hexagram: hexagram 47, Kun.
  • Position on the wheel: from 17°00′ Virgo to 22°37′30″ Virgo.
  • The Sun in Gate 47: roughly from September 9 to 15 (the dates shift by a day from year to year).
  • Neighbors on the wheel: Gate 64 comes before it, Gate 6 after it.

The Six Lines of Gate 47

Each gate is divided into six lines. The line shows how the gate's theme plays out in a particular person; in the chart it is written after the dot — for example, 47.4.

  • Line 1: Not Sinking Into Gloom. The first line strives to understand the past fully, but in an unclear situation it may sink into dark thoughts for a long time. A sober study of the facts, rather than working itself up, is thought to be its footing.
  • Line 2: Confusion Amid Plenty. The second line may feel unclear inside even when everything looks fine on the outside. In the system, it helps not to rush to look for a solution outside but to let time and quiet reveal the meaning of what is happening.
  • Line 3: Not Beating Against Stone. The third line sometimes runs up against what cannot be changed and seeks support where there is none. Through such trials it learns which questions are worth spending energy on and which are better let go.
  • Line 4: Slow Help. The fourth line wants to help those close to it sort out a muddle, but other people's interests and obligations hold it back. The matter is thought to get done in the end, even if more slowly and less smoothly than one would like.
  • Line 5: Calm Under Pressure. The fifth line finds itself under the weight of other people's expectations and doesn't always get support where it counted on it. In the system, its strength lies in quiet inner calm: clarity comes gradually if it isn't demanded at once.
  • Line 6: A Step Out of the Tangle. The sixth line knows how easy it is to get stuck in doubt and decide that any movement will be a mistake. Its mature example is admitting this and moving anyway: the bonds often turn out to be weaker than they seem.

Channels

Gate 47 is one half of a channel. A channel is defined when both of its gates are active — in one person or, in a couple, across two people.

  • Channel 47-64 “Abstraction” — the partner gate is 64 “Confusion” in the Head Center. The channel gives a mind that sorts through images of the past and tries to find meaning in them. Understanding is thought to come on its own once the pressure to figure things out immediately goes away.

All the channels are on the channels page, and Human Design compatibility shows what arises between the charts of two people.

An Honest Look at the Method

Human Design was created in 1987 by one man, Ra Uru Hu, and its claims have never been scientifically tested. We describe the rules of the system as they are and write the interpretations in our own words, not as knowledge about you.
