Ashlesha
Ashlesha is the 9th of the 27 nakshatras of Indian astrology. Degrees: 16°40′–30°00′ Cancer. Ruling planet: Mercury. Deity: the Nagas, serpent deities. Symbol: a coiled serpent.
Personality
Penetration and hypnotic influence. Ashlesha gives the ability to understand other people's motives and to influence people, as well as deep intuition.
Weakness: a tendency to manipulate and to hold grudges. This is one of the nakshatras the tradition calls "sharp," and it warns against using their energy against one's conscience.
Ruling Planet and Deity
The ruling planet, Mercury, determines through which period of life the nakshatra's theme unfolds: in the dasha system, it is the ruler of the Moon's nakshatra at birth that determines which period a person's life begins with.
The nakshatra’s deity is the Nagas, serpent deities. In the tradition, this deity reveals the nakshatra’s meaning more deeply than a description of character does: it is invoked in rituals connected with this part of the sky.
Each nakshatra is divided into four "padas" of 3°20′, and in Jyotish the pada refines the description. Determining the pada precisely requires the time and place of birth.
Suitable Occupations
Tradition associates the Ashlesha nakshatra with the following fields: psychology, diplomacy, medicine, pharmacology, criminal investigation, the occult sciences.
This is not career advice but a description of traditional correspondences. Your nakshatra is determined by the Moon's position, so you need your date, time, and place of birth.
Compatibility
In Kundali Milan, the Indian comparison of charts before marriage, the Moon's nakshatra determines most of the 36 compatibility points: Tara, Yoni, Gana and Nadi are calculated from it, while Varna, Vashya, Graha Maitri and Bhakoot come from the Moon sign.
Separately, the tradition takes "Nadi Dosha" into account: if both partners' nakshatras share the same nadi, the marriage is considered unfavorable. This is one of the most controversial parts of the system, and it is the reason perfectly good matches fall apart in India.
