Gate 32: Continuity

Gate 32, “Continuity”, is a gate of the Spleen. Below you will find what it means in the Human Design system, its six lines, the channel it belongs to, and when the Sun passes through it. The chart calculator will show whether you have it.

Meaning of Gate 32

A Spleen gate tied to the fear of failure and a sense of what is worth preserving. It gives the ability to recognize what is lasting and promising; the trap is clinging to the old out of fear of change.

In the system, a gate is always at work if it is active in the chart — at the moment of birth (Personality) or about 88 days before it (Design). If the other gate of its channel is also active, the channel is defined, and the theme of the gate becomes part of the person’s consistent energy.

Where the Gate Sits

  • Center: Spleen.
  • I Ching hexagram: Hexagram 32, Heng.
  • Position on the wheel: from 20°45′ Libra to 26°22′30″ Libra.
  • The Sun in Gate 32: roughly October 14 to 19 (the dates shift by a day in some years).
  • Neighbors on the wheel: before it, gate 57; after it, gate 50.

The Six Lines of Gate 32

Each gate is divided into six lines. The line specifies how the theme of the gate shows up in a particular person; in a chart it is written after a dot — for example, 32.4.

  • Line 1: Stability Takes Time. The first line wants guarantees of reliability as soon as possible, but what lasts takes shape gradually. It is thought to help to study what has already proved viable; the trap is demanding stability from a new venture from day one.
  • Line 2: Strength to Measure. A person with this line naturally senses how far their strength will go and doesn't overreach. In the system, such proportion removes the fear of failure; the trap is, out of caution, not taking on even what is well within their power.
  • Line 3: Lessons of Inconstancy. The third line learns from experience what inconsistency leads to: things started and abandoned, promises changed. These lessons are thought to help it find its own steady rhythm instead of trying to keep up with every change.
  • Line 4: Looking in the Right Place. The fourth line persistently pursues results, but it is important that the effort goes where results are possible. In the system, its connections suggest which venture is promising; the trap is continuing to invest in what has long stopped bearing fruit.
  • Line 5: Keep the Essence, Renew the Form. The fifth line is expected to find a solution that preserves what is valuable without hindering development. It is thought to succeed when it adapts old rules to new circumstances; the trap is clinging to form instead of essence.
  • Line 6: Calm Before Change. Over time the sixth line stops rushing between fear of loss and a thirst for the new. In the system, its calm confidence shows others that stability is born not of fuss but of a clear understanding of what is truly worth preserving.

Channels

Gate 32 is one half of a channel. A channel is defined when both of its gates are active — in one person or, in a couple, across the two partners.

  • Channel 32-54, “Transformation” — its other gate is 54, “Ambition”, in the Root Center. The channel gives a drive to grow, rise and turn ambitions into real results. It is thought to help soberly assess which of your plans are truly viable.

All the channels are on the channels page, and Human Design compatibility shows what arises between the charts of two people.
