Perthro
Perthro is the fourteenth rune, sound “p.” Literally, probably, “lot cup”; the most obscure rune of the Futhark in meaning.
Upright Position
Mystery, chance, what is hidden and about to be revealed. Perthro means an unknown that is already determined but not yet shown: a pregnancy, a result about to be announced, a secret that will come out. It is also a rune of initiation — passing into a new state through the incomprehensible and the frightening.
Reversed Position
An unpleasant secret, a deception brought to light, an unwanted exposure. A reversed Perthro warns that what is revealed won’t please you, and it’s better to prepare. Sometimes — an unlucky draw, a bet that didn’t pay off.
In love and at work
In relationships, the upright rune means a secret love, unexpected news, a hidden pregnancy; reversed, a secret revealed and its consequences. At work — an unknown factor, a lottery, a gamble, a risky decision with unclear terms.
The rune’s advice
Don’t rush to conclusions: part of the picture is still hidden. Don’t stake everything on one chance, and be ready for whatever is revealed.
