Eihwaz

Eihwaz is the thirteenth rune, sound “e” or “ei.” Literally “yew.” It is symmetrical and has no reversed position.

Meaning

Endurance and protection in a difficult undertaking. The yew is the tree bows were made from: flexible and strong at the same time. Eihwaz says there is an obstacle, but it can be overcome if you bend rather than force your way through. The rune’s second theme is the link between beginning and end, seeing the matter as a whole; it often comes up when a person is stuck in the middle and can’t see a way out that is actually just two steps away.

In love and at work

In relationships, Eihwaz means a bond that will withstand hardship, along with the need for flexibility. At work — an obstacle you get around with patience and negotiation, and protection from outside trouble.

The rune’s advice

Show endurance and flexibility: an obstacle is to be gone around, not rammed. Look at the matter as a whole, from beginning to end — the way out may be closer than it seems.
