The Hierophant
The fifth arcanum is The Hierophant. The card of tradition, learning and shared rules: how things are done, and why it works.
Upright Position
Relying on what has been tested: advice from elders, study, following rules, official procedures. It often points to a mentor, to marriage as an institution, to the formal side of a contract. The card advises against reinventing the wheel where a ready path exists.
Reversed Position
The rules become a cage: dogmatism, formalism, following tradition without meaning. Another reading is rebellion: the person rejects all norms, and sometimes rightly so. It helps to ask whom these rules serve.
In love and at work
In love — an official relationship, a church wedding, meeting the family. In career — a large organization, training, mentorship. Money is stable but without leaps: this is not an entrepreneur's card.
The card's advice
Ask someone who has walked this path before. In this situation, other people's experience is worth more than your ingenuity.
