Hexagram 57, Xun: “The Gentle,” “Penetration.” Soft, continuous influence that wins without force.
The image of the hexagram
The hexagram is made of two identical Xun trigrams (wind). Wind over wind: a double wind that gradually gets in everywhere.
General meaning
The answer is favorable for influence, not for pressure. Xun says goals are reached through repetition and gentleness: the wind does not break things, it seeps in. The classic text limits the scale — success in small matters — and stresses the need for a clear aim, because wind without direction only makes noise.
In love and at work
In relationships: gradual influence, conversations that change things slowly; pressure is out of the question. At work: sales, negotiations, bringing in change through people. The hexagram is no good for a single decisive blow.
What to do
Say your piece again, gently, for a third time. Decide on the direction in advance, or the effort will scatter.
