54
Hexagram 54, Gui Mei: “The Marrying Maiden,” literally “the younger sister given in marriage.” It is about entering in a secondary role.

Below is the Dui trigram (lake), above is Zhen (thunder). Thunder over a lake: the younger one enters someone else’s household on unequal terms.
General meaning
The answer is cautious. Gui Mei describes a position where you are entering an established structure without full rights: a junior partner, a second marriage, a new job in a long-standing team. The classic text does not condemn this, but it warns: you cannot count on equality right away, and demanding it now is a sure path to conflict.
In love and at work
In relationships: an unequal union, a relationship with baggage from the past, dependence on someone else’s rules. At work: stepping onto someone else’s turf, working under a strong boss. For the condition “on my terms,” the answer is no.
What to do
Go in, accept the rules for the time being, and don’t demand equality before its time. You earn your place from the inside, not at the door.
