52
Hexagram 52, Gen: “Keeping Still,” literally “stopping.” The opposite of hexagram 51: stillness instead of a blow.
The image of the hexagram
The hexagram is made of two identical Gen trigrams (mountain). Mountain over mountain: a double mountain, a complete halt to movement.
General meaning
The answer: stop. Gen says that action is out of place right now, and that stillness is not wasted time but work: it brings clarity back. The classic text describes stopping as the art of standing still at the right time and moving at the right time; the mistake is forcibly holding yourself back where movement is already overdue.
In love and at work
In relationships: a pause, quiet, no more having it out; for an overheated couple, this is the best thing possible. At work: halt the project, change nothing, focus on one thing. For an active step, the answer is no.
What to do
Deliberately do nothing about this matter for a few days. That is exactly the action required.
