19
Hexagram 19, Lin — “Approach,” “Drawing Near.” It is about attention from above and growing strength.
The image of the hexagram
Below is the trigram Dui (lake), above is Kun (earth). Earth over the lake: the land rises above the water — the great draws near to the small.
General meaning
The answer is favorable. Lin describes an upward movement that has already begun and will continue: the two yang lines at the bottom are growing. Often this is attention from someone stronger — a boss, a patron, an influential person. The classical warning concerns timing: the favorable period has a limit, and it must be used while it lasts.
In love and at work
In relationships — a coming together in which one side has the upper hand, courtship, care; a good sign as long as you don't mistake attention for commitment. At work — an offer, a promotion, an important contact. For holding back and defending, the hexagram won't do.
What to do
Go to meet it and don't delay your answer. This approach has a limited window.
