20
Hexagram 20, Guan — “Contemplation.” It is about looking: you watch, and you are watched.
The image of the hexagram
Below is the trigram Kun (earth), above is Xun (wind). Wind over earth: the wind travels over the land and sees everything — an image of overview and observation.
General meaning
The answer: now is the time to watch, not to act. Guan says your understanding of the situation isn't complete yet, and the main effort is to see the whole rather than push on a detail. The other side of the hexagram is that you are in view: your actions are being watched and judged, so how things look from the outside matters.
In love and at work
In relationships — a stage of observing, assessing, sizing each other up; early decisions right now would be mistakes. At work — an audit, analytics, a probation period, publicity. For a deal “here and now,” the answer is no.
What to do
Put together the whole picture by the end of the week, and only then decide. While you're at it, check how your moves look from the outside.
