13
Hexagram 13, Tong Ren — “Fellowship,” “Kindred Spirits.” It is about bonds formed not by blood or by calculation but by a shared cause.
The image of the hexagram
Below is the trigram Li (fire), above is Qian (heaven). Heaven over fire: the flame rises toward heaven, different people drawn to one common goal.
General meaning
The answer is favorable if you act openly. Tong Ren says: the right people will turn up, but only outside a narrow circle — the hexagram explicitly contrasts family closeness with shared views. Success comes by stepping onto a wide field: announcing what you're doing and gathering those who care about it too.
In love and at work
In relationships — friendship growing into intimacy, a partnership built on shared values; for a couple it's a sign of “us together against the problem.” At work — a team, a community, a public stance. For a secret arrangement the hexagram is bad: secrecy spoils everything here.
What to do
Say out loud what you're planning to do. Kindred spirits aren't found in silence.
