BaZi forecast by month and day

A personal forecast based on your BaZi chart, made the way a master makes it: the background of the decade and year, a forecast for the next 12 months and a calendar of the days of the month that shows which days are favourable for you, on which it is better not to rush, and why.

Chart settings

You need your date of birth; the time is recommended — without it the chart will have no hour pillar. The forecast covers everything at once: 5 years, 12 months starting from the chosen one, and every day of the chosen month. The current month is the default. Longitude and UTC offset are needed only if the place is not found in the search.

How a BaZi master makes a forecast

  1. Birth chart. First a full BaZi chart is built and the key points for the forecast are determined: the strength of the Day Master and the useful elements (用神) — what the chart lacks and what harms it.
  2. Decade and year. The Luck Pillar (大运) sets the background for ten years, the year pillar (流年) for the year. A good year in a difficult decade is lived differently than in a lucky one.
  3. Month. Each month has its own pillar (流月). It begins on the day of a "jie" solar term and lasts about 30 days.
  4. Day. The day pillar (流日) changes every day following the sixty-day cycle. It is compared with the chart in the same way as the year and the month — this is how the calendar of good and difficult days is made.

What makes a month or a day favourable

Elements. If the stem and especially the branch of the pillar carry your useful or supporting element, time works in your favour. If they carry an unfavourable one, more energy is spent and results come harder.

Branch relations. A clash (冲) between the branch of the day or month and the branch of your birth day is a classic sign of change, arguments with loved ones and nervousness; weddings and moves are not scheduled on such days. A combination (六合) with the day branch, on the contrary, brings harmony to relationships. Harm (害) and punishment (刑) bring small grievances, mistakes and nitpicking. If the day branch completes a three-way combination (三合) with your chart, everything depends on which element it forms — useful or not.

Stars. A Nobleman day (天乙贵人) helps you get support and resolve a difficult issue, a Prosperity day (禄) adds strength and money, an Academic day (文昌) is good for exams, a Peach Blossom day (桃花) for dates, a Travelling Horse day (驿马) for trips. A Blade day (羊刃) calls for caution, and Emptiness (空亡) is a day when what you start easily goes nowhere.

God of the day. The day stem is one of the Ten Gods of your chart, and it hints at what the day is good for: "Wealth" for money and deals, "Officer" for official matters, "Resource" for study and paperwork, "Eating God" for rest and creativity.

How to Read the Result

At the top is the background: which ten-year luck period is running now and how the year is coloured for you. Below is a table for the next 12 months with a rating and explanation for each, followed by a calendar of the chosen month. Click a day to see what it is good for and what to avoid. Under the calendar you will find the best and most difficult days of the month, and the buttons at the bottom let you flip through the months.

The rating is "excellent", "favourable", "ordinary" or "difficult". More than half of the days are ordinary: they have neither strong support nor strong obstacles. This is normal and as it should be — a month has only a few truly excellent days.

An Honest Look at the Method

The BaZi forecast is a traditional Chinese technique with no proven predictive power. We calculate the pillars astronomically (the solar terms come from ephemerides) and the ratings by the rules of the Zi Ping school, and we describe what the tradition says, not knowledge of the future. As a way to plan important matters and notice how you are doing, such a calendar works well enough, but make decisions about health, money and relationships on their merits.

Frequently asked questions

How is a personal forecast different from a calendar of auspicious days?

An ordinary Chinese almanac rates a day the same for everyone. A personal forecast compares the day pillar with your chart: whether its elements are useful to you, whether its branch clashes with the branches of your chart, whether the day brings your Nobleman. That is why the same day can be different for two people.

Why doesn't a BaZi month start on the 1st?

Chinese months follow the "jie" solar terms: a month begins at the moment the Sun passes another 30°, around the 4th to 8th of the month. That is why each month in the table has its own dates.

Do I need to know the birth time?

It is recommended but not required. Without the time, the chart is built from three pillars: the useful elements are estimated a little more roughly, and the relations of days and months with the hour pillar are not checked. The main thing — the day branch — hardly depends on the time.

What should I do on a difficult day?

The tradition does not say "stay at home". A difficult day is a time to finish what you have started, rest and avoid hasty decisions; important meetings, deals, a wedding or a move are better postponed to favourable days.

Why can an excellent month have difficult days?

The month and the day are read separately: the month pillar sets the background, and each day brings its own pillar. In a good month a difficult day is easier to get through; in a difficult month a good day is a window worth using.
