丙 Bing — Yang Fire
Bing is the third Heavenly Stem, Yang Fire. If it's your day stem, BaZi sees you as the sun: generosity, openness and energy.
Image
In the Di Tian Sui, the verse on the Bing stem begins: “丙火猛烈，欺霜侮雪” — “Bing fire is fierce: it fears neither frost nor snow.”
Bing is the sun: a fire that shines on everyone at once and needs no fuel. It isn't afraid of the cold, because it is itself a source of warmth.
Personality
Bing means generosity, openness and energy. Bing people love being in the spotlight, lift everyone's spirits, make friends easily and don't hold grudges. They shine on everyone equally, and expect their light to be noticed. They find it hard to hide their feelings or stay in the shadows.
Strengths: warmth and generosity, enthusiasm that rubs off on others, openness and directness, leadership without pressure.
Weak points: impatience, a love of show and attention, a quick temper that soon burns out.
What Supports Bing
In the classical imagery, the sun needs a large body of water, a river or a lake that reflects it: then its brilliance becomes beauty instead of scorching heat. The Di Tian Sui adds that Bing can temper Geng metal but “is timid before Xin”: it combines with Xin and loses its strength.
Each element has its own season: wood is strongest in spring, fire in summer, metal in autumn, water in winter, and earth in the transitional months between the seasons. Tradition sees a Day Master born in its own season as confident, and one born out of season as needing support; how much this matters is decided by an analysis of the whole chart.
At Work and in Relationships
At work, Bing shines on stage, in sales, teaching and public roles: anywhere that needs light and energy. In relationships, Bing brings generosity and openness and needs to feel appreciated.
This is an image, not a verdict: the rest of the chart — the Ten Gods, the Luck Pillars, the balance of elements — can shift the picture considerably.
Frequently asked questions
Which stem does Bing combine with?
With Xin (辛, Yin Metal). This pair produces the Water element. In a chart, it's a sign of attraction and alliance; if the Day Masters of two people form this pair, tradition sees a natural attraction between them.
Which stem does Bing clash with?
With Ren (壬, Yang Water): the two stems stand opposite each other in the cycle, and the element of one suppresses the element of the other. In a chart, this is a conflict of goals between the areas of life of the two pillars.
Where can I find out what my Day Master is?
In the BaZi calculator: the Day Master is the stem of the day pillar, and it's marked separately in the chart table. You need your exact date of birth, and if you were born around midnight, your birth time as well.
