The Fool

The Fool is the zero arcanum, the card of a beginning that has no plan yet. In a spread it means a step into the unknown: the person sets off without knowing how it will end, and that is exactly what gives them freedom.

Upright Position

The situation has not taken shape yet: no decision has been made, there are no agreements, but there is desire and room to maneuver. The card advises against overloading the idea with preparation — mistakes at the start cost less than three more months of deliberation. There is a worrying shade too: The Fool doesn't watch his step, and next to The Tower or the Eight of Swords freedom turns into carelessness.

Reversed Position

It can be read two ways. Either the person rushes ahead without regard for anyone, abandons what they started and takes on a risk they aren't ready to carry. Or they are stuck on the threshold: they want to begin but look for guarantees where there are none. It helps to ask what the situation has more of — fuss or paralysis.

In love and at work

At the start of a relationship The Fool is a good sign: there is interest and no obligations. In a long relationship it sounds different: one of the partners behaves like a guest. In career — a change of occupation, a first project in a new field, a launch without a safety cushion. For a question about investments it is a bad card: it is not about calculation.

The card's advice

Take the first step today, the smallest one possible. The Fool doesn't promise results; he promises movement.
