Fehu
Fehu is the first rune of the Elder Futhark, sound “f.” Literally “cattle,” meaning property: what a person has and can lose.
Upright Position
Profit that comes from work invested, and possessions that must be maintained. Fehu speaks of income, a purchase, a promotion, an inheritance — a material result that has already ripened. The other side of the rune is the need to manage: cattle need feeding, money needs decisions. If the question was about a new venture, the answer is yes, provided you are ready to tend it.
Reversed Position
Loss or leakage: spending exceeds income, what was promised wasn’t paid, an agreement fell through. Sometimes it is not about money but about wasting your energy on other people’s affairs. A reversed Fehu also points to greed — your own or that of the person you’re dealing with.
In love and at work
In relationships, an upright Fehu speaks of mutual investment and reliability; reversed, of an unequal exchange where one gives and the other takes. At work — money, payment, the fruits of labor; for a question about salary or a budget, this is the key rune.
The rune’s advice
Take care of what you already have: income, possessions and energy need attention and decisions. Before spending or investing, work out what you are giving and what you get in return.
