62
Hexagram 62, Xiao Guo: “Preponderance of the Small.” Small things have grown out of proportion and taken the place of what matters most.
The image of the hexagram
Below is the Gen trigram (mountain), above is Zhen (thunder). Thunder over a mountain: thunder above a motionless peak, the small outgrowing its measure.
General meaning
The answer: stick to small things and don’t take on big ones. Xiao Guo says that minor matters succeed right now and major ones do not: there is enough strength for care and precision, but not for scale. The classic image is a bird flying too high: it had better stay low. The hexagram also points to excessive attention to detail at the expense of the whole.
In love and at work
In relationships: petty nitpicking, everyday chores crowding out what matters; it helps to return to simple attentiveness. At work: a time for routine tasks and order, not launches. For a major decision, the answer is no.
What to do
Finish a few small tasks all the way and put the big one aside. And check whether you are fighting over a trifle.
