Rider
Card 1, “Rider” — news on its way to you, and the young man who brings it. In the playing-card deck it corresponds to the Nine of Hearts.
Core Meaning
The main meaning is movement and tidings: a message, an arrival, the start of something coming from outside. The Rider always signals something approaching rather than already here, and usually something fast. As a person — a young man, athletic, active, often not from your circle.
In Combinations
Lenormand is read in pairs: the neighboring card tells you what the news is about. Rider and Heart — news about love; Rider and Letter — a document that will arrive soon; Rider and Coffin — bad news.
In love and at work
In love — someone approaching, a date, an invitation. At work — an awaited reply, a partner’s visit, a delivery. In timing, the card means “soon”: days, not months.
