Hexagram 7, Shi: “The Army.” It is about discipline, structure and legitimate leadership.
The image of the hexagram
Below is the Kan trigram (water), above is Kun (earth). Earth over water: water gathered under the ground like an army — scattered force brought into order.
General meaning
The answer: the outcome depends on order, not on enthusiasm. Shi describes a situation that calls for firm organization — with a clear leader, rules and an understandable goal. The classic text stresses that command must belong to someone experienced and respected; otherwise even a just cause falls apart.
In love and at work
In relationships: the need to agree on rules — who is responsible for what, what is acceptable. There is no romance in this hexagram, but plenty of stability. At work: a moment to build processes, assign responsibility and cut down on freelancing. For a question about a conflict: the better-organized side will win, not the side that is more in the right.
What to do
Put one person in charge and write down the rules. Without that, nothing in your situation holds together.
